JRI Orthopaedics celebrates its 50th Anniversary!

JRI Orthopaedics was established in 1969 by an orthopaedic surgeon, Mr Ronald Furlong, when he introduced the Muller cemented hip to the UK market.  By 1977 JRI had expanded and opened its own manufacturing facility in the North of England in Sheffield.  The heart of the British steel industry.

JRI Orthopaedics has always been committed to working with the best people within the industry in order to deliver optimum solutions in joint reconstruction, repair and regeneration, putting the patient at the heart of everything they do. 

JRI is more than just a hip company

We offer a complete portfolio of implants and instrumentation providing a variety of solutions for primary arthroplasty through to complex revision surgery. As well as manufacturing world-class hip prostheses we also manufacture and distribute products for shoulder and knee arthroplasty, including a range of orthobiologics.

JRI joined AK Medical in 2018

JRI Orthopaedics joined forces with AK Medical in 2018. AK Medical are China's leading domestic joint replacement company and one of the world's largest 3D-printed orthopaedic implant manufacturers. 

The JRI and AK Medical brands continue to exist separately, but the combination of the two businesses has created a larger and stronger presence within the international orthopaedic sector and has resulted opportunities that will benefit millions of patients worldwide.

Our team at INIXIO® is made up of experienced engineers, clinical experts and product specialists based at our UK head offices in Sheffield.  Our focus will be on Implant Technology, Digital Surgery and Orthobiologics. 

Our aim is to provide surgeons with clinically proven solutions to help improve efficiency and precision.  

World-first H-A.C Coated Hip System

In 1985, JRI became the first company to produce a hip implant with a hydroxyapatite ceramic coating (H-A.C) enabling a biological bond with the patient’s bone.

Working with leading charity

Until 2018, JRI was owned by the charitable organisation ORUK (Orthopaedic Research UK) and gifted-aided wholly over £12 million to help fund world-class orthopaedic research – an unrivalled investment we are enormously proud of.
